Description

I have been a pilot for many years, so maybe I take more delight than others in watching birds take off, land, and fly? But these guys make the rest of mere mortal birds look like rank amateurs when it comes to flying. What other bird can you think of that can actually hover? And drink at the same time?

Their wings flap so fast, it's often impossible to stop the motion of their wings, even at my camera's fastest shutter speed, and using a flash to help stop the motion.

I like this picture because his wings are sharp as a tack, but must admit that it was pure luck to catch them at a time when there was very little movement going on. It's always better to be lucky than good, isn't that what they say?
