Description
This famous piece of land was held by the German Army, and had large fortified artillery emplacements on it. Omaha beach is to the West of the pointe, and Utah beach is to the East. Three companies of the 2nd Ranger Battalion were tasked with scaling the steep cliffs, and silencing the guns on the D-Day invasion of Normandy. They got the job done, but, of the 225 men who began the assault, only 90 survived. This piece of property in Normandy, France is actually maintained by the USA for perpetuity...
Ah, France! It seemed to me the whole country was just one fantastic photo opportunity after another! Any direction I turned, there was something photo worthy. I teach my photography students, that if they wish to take more interesting photos, they need to travel to somewhere more interesting than their usual or current haunts. The entire country of France fulfills that requirement splendidly for this West Texas native.
