A quick getaway weekend one year in the early fall to Taos NM allowed us to schedule a ride in a hot air balloon, something we had never done before.
We awoke at zero dark thirty, met the ballooning group in downtown Taos, where we all loaded up into a van and drove West towards the plateaus near the Rio Grand River gorge. It was colder than comfortable, and upon arriving at the launch location, we all got out of the van and stood around waiting for the pilot to get the balloon out and begin launch preparations. Little did we know that the gentle 6 or 7 mph wind in our faces was too much to allow the launch.
We decided to re-arrange our schedule and stay one more day in Taos in hopes that the following morning would be less windy, and allow us to fly. Long story short, it was less windy the next day, and as you can tell from the pictures, we did get to fly. Beautiful, peaceful experience, everyone needs to try it.
