Description
"Horny Toads" is what we called them as kids. And they were plentiful. I can remember holding handfuls of babies until releasing them back into the wild.
They became endangered in Texas when the fire ants arrived, and decimated the red ant populations for awhile. Now, the red ants have made a comeback, and the horny toads are trying to do so as well. We don't see them often on my place, but when we do, I try to get some good pictures of this prehistoric looking toad.
