Description
For once, we were in the right place at the right time to see the trees change color. This is in Early October, between Lake City and Capitol City, Colorado on a rough, winding two lane path that was originally built to service the silver mines in the area. I loved the setting sun that shone through the aspen leaves, making them almost translucent. Converting the picture to black and white was irresistible to me.
As summer fades into fall, the days start getting shorter and there is less sunlight. This is a signal for the leaves to prepare for winter and to stop making chlorophyll. Once this happens, the green color starts to fade and the reds, oranges, and yellows become visible.
